Susan Elbin, Ph.D. - Innovative Solutions for Parsippany
“As a nation we have begun working toward a greener economy, but the real work will be done in our towns and cities, one by one. I’m running to ensure our Township Council plays an active role in that process.”
Susan Elbin has served on Parsippany’s Planning Board for four years and the Environmental Advisory Committee for three and a half.
Elbin has 25 years of experience working with bi-partisan partners in wildlife conservation. As Director of Conservation for the New York City Audubon Society, she focuses on protecting watersheds, natural areas, and wildlife in a region of urban development and sprawl.
Susan has lived in Parsippany for fifteen years with her husband, Greg, a high school teacher at Morris Knolls in Denville, and their daughter, Rachel, currently the head teacher at the British School of Zanzibar, Tanzania. She is an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Parsippany.
Elbin holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution from Rutgers University and an M.S. from The Pennsylvania State University. She lived for two years in Africa, where she was a pre-doctoral fellow at the University of Cape Town, RSA. In addition to her work with New York City Audubon, Dr. Elbin is an adjunct professor at Columbia University and is on the board of directors for several professional organizations, including Nature Network, the Ornithological Council, and the Waterbird Society.
