Vote for Checks and Balance
For the first time in 16 years, Parsippany is operating under one-party rule. The Council is a small group of like-minded individuals, and as such discussion is limited and unanimous decisions have become commonplace — even for potentially controversial decisions like voting to approve a Zone of Rehabilitation or entering into a 20 year agreement to re-open incinerators on Edwards Road.
Catanzaro, McCarthy and Wyka recognize that the Council’s most important role is that of oversight and balance. When the mayor presents a contract or a new budget, the Council is responsible for asking questions, initiating discussion, and fully understanding the impact of each decision before voting. If there are unable to understand an issue or the impact of that decision, they should reach out to experts within our community and committee system like the Environmental Advisory Committee, Historic Preservation Committee or Transparency in Government Committee.
