New Endorsements for Catanzaro, McCarthy and Wyka

Posted in: View All Entries by admin on October 20, 2011 | No Comments

This past week, Annelise, Janice and Tom received National Endorsement from Democracy for America  (DFA).   DFA is a grassroots organization that provides training, resources, and media exposure for democratic candidates across the US.  They have more than one million members nationwide.

“It is a tremendous honor to receive the official DFA national endorsement from a grassroots organization that has provided so many resources for citizens looking to step up to public service.” noted Tom Wyka, founding member of Morris DFA.

Additionally,  Annelise also received endorsement  from Democrats 2000.  This organization supports serious candidates who are 40 and younger and pursuing elected office at the local, county, or state level in New Jersey.

“I’m truly honored to have been selected by Dems2000 to be one of their 2011 Recommended Candidates!” said Catanzaro. “With the current challenges in our communities and our country, it’s critical to have new voices and ideas.   Encouraging young people to run and even more importantly to VOTE is a valuable mission.  Personally, I’m honored to also have support from one of the premier political organizations for younger candidates in NJ.  Thank you!”

With the contract for Parsippany’s liability insurance coming to an end in December, Janice McCarthy reflects on the Parsippany Township Council’s decision to move forward with an overpriced insurance policy.

It’s official…. a majority of Parsippany’s Council has been appointed

Posted in: Featured, View All Entries by admin on September 14, 2011 | No Comments

As of yesterday evening (Tuesday, September 13th), the majority of Parsippany’s Township Council has now been appointed by the Republican Party.  Paul Carifi was sworn in to fill the seat abandoned by former Council President John Fox – making him the third (out of five) Council members to be appointed.  Fox resigned earlier this month to take a position on the Morris County Board of Elections.

Following his resignation, Fox said, “”This should give a leg up to Paul [Carifi Jr.],” Fox said. “Chances are he’ll be appointed and that will give him a leg up in the [November general] election, so he can run as an incumbent councilman.”  (Quoted from Parsippany Patch)

Our Take

“There is an absurd lack of balance in our town when the majority of the council is appointed by those in power, and not elected by Parsippany.  Today more than ever it’s critical to elect independent voices to Parsippany’s Council — Janice, Tom and I are ready to fill that void and provide much needed balance.”  - Annelise Catanzaro

“The Council’s primary role is serve as checks and balances for the Mayor’s budget and contracting process.  With 3 of 5 council members appointed, it creates a very unhealthy environment for decision-making and I’m concerned we’ll end up with another MCJIF fiasco.”  - Janice McCarthy

“I find it very disconcerting that John Fox will now be serving on the County Board of Elections, especially given the allegations of voter fraud in Parsippany.   Fair elections and making sure every vote is counted (only once!) is critical in our democracy.”   - Tom Wyka
